A) General

  1. Event basics
    European Truck Trial runs are skill sections for all-wheel driven trucks, vintage trucks and tractors on a closed track. Trials are skill sections which are ground-specific and have the purpose of testing the driver’s handling abilities of a vehicle. No time trials are conducted in this competition. The number of runs, the proposed venues and entry fees are published by the OVS.

    • Participants
      Male and female drivers (hereinafter only “driver” or “drivers”) holding a valid driving license for the vehicle are entitled to participate only (subject to the rules of the event country). The driving license must be presented at every run.A team consists of up to three people (one driver and two co-drivers). Each person is during the competition allowed to be only member of one team. There is no obligation for co-drivers to stay in the vehicle during the whole run. The minimum age for co-drivers is 16. Transporting other persons or animals is not allowed.
    • Registration
      The registration must be made on the appropriate form. The entry for the entire season has to be with the OVS by the 1st of April. Registrations for runs must be there four weeks before the start. Later entries can be accepted only in case of open positions. The entry fee can be paid directly at the race or transferred to the account of the OVS. The registration on site and the technical acceptance will only take place in the period announced on the notice board (also on the Internet).     • Insurance
      A copy of a certificate of insurance confirming full insurance coverage for each vehicle participating with European Truck Trial events has to be presented, explicitly confirmed by an insurance company. This requirement does not apply if a total insurance was made with or by the OVS. Otherwise a sufficient insurance policy must be taken out in the event office. If there is no insurance cover, participation is excluded.
    • Change of vehicle and dual start
      There is only one car allowed per team and run. The vehicle may be changed for the next run. When changing the category, drivers loose the points achieved by then. There is a maximum of two teams allowed for one vehicle. A vehicle may only be used in one category. Each participant may pass a section only once. Dual starts have to be fixed with the entry, such teams can be tagged. These tags must be shown during the entire weekend. Dual-start-vehicles must have a reversal plate for the numbers. Numbers not in use must be covered and have to refer to the drivers registered in their respective categories.
    • Category occupancy and minimum participants
      There have to be at least two participants in each category. The category is merged, if there are at least two drivers participating. No championship can be awarded if there are less than three participants per category.
      A valid run is given if there is one section driven at least. A section is driven when the entrance gate has been overcome.
    • Color codes of categories
      Gates that are designed for certain categories only are color-coded at the top of the left gate poles:
      Category II – black     Category III – green     Categorie IV – yellow   Categorie P – red.  
      All other gates are color-coded (usually white-marked) on the left gate poles. These gates must be driven by all starters. Color markings on the bottom of the gate poles are meant for the section staff only.
  1. Rules of behavior and driving
    • Information
      Board messages at the office must be observed and are binding. Information will be updated in case of news.
    • Line of conduct
      All participants have to stand to the instructions of the organizers and the commissioners. Off-road driving is prohibited beyond the competition (Except for trips to inspect the sections). Drivers, co-drivers, and also the management and security staff must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the competition . No smoking in any opened section. Misconduct might be punished with penalties on points or disqualification. Any unauthorized marking inside the sections also leads to disqualification.
    • Sections
      A section is open when the barrier tapes are removed from entrance and exit gate. Each opened section is supervised by a commissioner. He is authorized to overrule decisions of marshals, to resolve all contentious issues, disqualify a competitor from the section or the competition, due to serious infringements, in coordination with the competition management, or to close the section if a safety or proper procedure cannot be guaranteed. In this case, 0 points are given for this section. For each section, a maximum time for each team is given. If this time limit is exceeded by a team, the section is closed. It is recommended to install timing inside the vehicle. A section is closed when the last participant of the group/categorie has left the section and no next driver (afterstart) is ready to go.
    • Drivers Briefing
      In the driver’s briefing provisions of the regulations may be modified or amended. These modifications or amendments may be valid for a single event or even until the end of the season. Each team should be represented in the driver’s briefing.
  2. Waiver of liability and other statements
    • Waiver of liability
      Driver and all starting Co-Drivers sign at the registration a “waiver of liability”.
    • Alcohol control
      By signing the registration form drivers and all co-drivers agree in alcohol controls.
    • OVS Advertisement
      Participants will distinctly and visibly wear the advertising material provided by the OVS.
    • Participation in other Truck Trial events
      For participation in international or open national truck trial events an explicit consent of the OVS is required.
      The advertisement of the OVS sponsors must be covered when participating in other events or during public appearances, or it must receive the written approval of the OVS.


  1. Advertising
    • Vehicle advertising
      Free of charge advertising space for OVS is provided on each vehicle, ​​4 m² on the vehicle front, on the rear and on both other sides. Furthermore there is space required for the number (minimum 40×40 cm, but a maximum of 50×50 cm) and the season label of Europa Truck Trial. Advertising space must be provided as given below. 
      The number must be affixed laterally, centrally on doors, furthermore one team sponsor (size maximum height (H) 10cm, width (B) 40 cm) and the name of the driver and co-driver.
      Front and rear an ad space of 40×40 cm must be provided, parallelly to the axle. This space has to be cleared/created if not present. The number must not be hidden by the roll cage or any other part of the vehicle.
      Laterally ad space must be placed between 50 cm behind the cab and 30 cm offset from the cover’s outer edge to the inside.
      The following sizes are accepted: categorie II and Proto, height (H): 70 cm, width (B): 30 cm H 40 cm, W: 60 cm H: 30 cm, W: 90 cm; categories III and  IV height (H): 100 cm, width (B): 40 cm H 45 cm, W: 80 cm H: 30 cm, W: 120 cm. A space of ​​10 cm H, B 180 cm H 20 cm, W 90 cm has to be cleared on the front side windshield or just above (roll cage). At the rear is to create an area of H 10cm, W 180 cm or H 20 cm, W 90 cm.
      Ad spaces must be clean enough that permanently adhesive film can be fixed. Doors and provided spaces must be clear for the first inspection. Each vehicle will be completely equipped with a full set of films before the first run.
      After the label of the OVS is fixed the remaining area may be used for personal purposes.
      Violation of these advertising requirements means the vehicle does not meet the regulations and may be disqualified.


B) Ranking, schedule and evaluation

The Chief commissioner may overrule obvious bad decisions of the other commissioners. The participants’ protest rights remain unaffected. Protest periods begin on date of information to the participants being affected.

  1. Ranking
    • Run
      Winner of the run is the team showing the fewest penalty points (calculated by multiplier) in its categorie. In case of equality, competitors will be ranked at the same position. The next position remains vacant.

    • Championship
      All teams will be considered if they have received at least one championship point. In case of seven or more runs one of them will be counted as void result. In case of six runs or fewer each run will be counted. The winner of the championship is the team having scored the most points in its categorie at the end of the championship.
      In case of equality (for seven or more competitions) the void result is decisive, followed by the number of failure points in the sections. If there is still no advantage for a participator, they are ranked at the same position.
      A “European Champion” will be determined in categories II, III, IV and Proto. If a team is disqualified or excluded during a current season, it will no longer be considered in the championship. The run-offs achieved until then remain unaffected.
  2. Sequence
    • Sequence
      It is prohibited to drivers or co-drivers to enter an open section, not even during breaks caused by rescues, etc., unless the commissioner asks them for assistance. The team starting first has to be ready immediately when the section is open. The next team must be ready to go on signal for entry from the commissioner or an authorized marshall (authorized person). A team is considered to be ready to start when the vehicle is positioned directly on the line between the gate poles of an entry door, the driver and co-driver are strapped and the helmets can be placed immediately and closed properly. The signal for start is given by the commissioner or an authorized marshal.
      In case a team drops out the competition or do not drive one section, the next team must be ready to go. If a team drops out the competition, the commissioner and the next team must be informed. If a team is not ready for start, it is occupied by 40 penalty points. The list of the given points may be counter-signed by the driver or co-driver after driving the section.
    • Starting Order
      Teams of vehicle categories are assigned to groups. Dual starters are assigned to the same group. The following is binding for dual starters: Dual starters are the first to be assigned to the groups.There has to be one vehicle in between the dual starters. If necessary, the second starter takes one place back. If dual starters are placed on last and next to last place, the first starter goes one place before. Drop-outs of vehicles do not lead to changes. If sections are canceled in the current competition, the start in the next section is carried out in the same order. The first starter of the aborted section will be the first in the next section. Each starter drives the sections, released for the competition, in groups. Subsequently, the competition will be continued in truck categories, if there is available time. The necessary division of the categories takes place in the order of the actual run. The sections are assigned by the senior commissioner.
      On special conditions (terrain, weather, etc.), the senior sports commissioner decides whether to start in categories from the beginning of the competition. Before making the decision, he agrees with the present drivers’ representatives and the OVS.
    • Afterstart
      Afterstarts are allowed, in principle. (To report as specified in 6.1).
    • Refusing a section and maximum points
      Each team is allowed to refuse driving sections. This is the worst possible score for a category in a section. If a team would score more penalty points in driving the section, only the maximum points will be given. No multiplier is taken into account in this calculation.
    • Routing and statement
      The driver is responsible for the choice of the entrance gate (if more than one entry gate is available) and responsible for his route. The marshals are not authorized to give information. In case the routing is not clearly indicated only the commissioner is authorized to give information during track inspection – but not when a section is open.
    • Gates, impossible to pass

      • Driving in group assignment: Any gate, which will not passed correct during the competition by any team regardless of truck categories, will be excluded from the competition.
      • Driving in categories: Any gate that has not passed correct by a team (vehicles of the same category) will be taken out of the competition. 
  3. Evaluation 
    • Driving rules in the section
      For entry the vehicle’s  contour must stand directly on the  line between the poles of one of the entrance gate. Either Commissioner or an authorized Marshall indicates the start. The entire area inside the barrier may be used for driving. Unnumbered gates may be passed in any order. The gates may be passed both forward and backward in direction. The color code must be passed left in the direction of driving.

Each gate is valid passed when all wheels of one side of the vehicle and at least one wheel of the other side have crossed the gate line inside the poles – base point is valid in case of a pole no longer exists – and the contour of the vehicle has left the gate. A gate is valid passed being left the same direction it was entered. Dragged tow ropes or tangled knots etc. are considered as parts of the vehicle. When a vehicle has entered a gate, but not overcome, it may leave the gate for the next try (except for start gate). For leaving the section there no additional penalty points given.
An additional tape for protecting the attendances is not part of the section’s barrier.

C) Vehicle inspection

  1.  Technical requirements and advertising 
    • Technical inspection
      The technical inspection of all vehicles generally is made by a technical commissioner right before the first run of the season. The vehicles must comply with these regulations.
      If a team has to change a wheel after the technical acceptance, it must be replaced by the same wheel. If another wheel (different profile, different manufacturer, different size, different rim) has to be installed, the change must be reported immediately to the management office. In this case, the vehicle is remeasured. The evaluation for the entire run is based on the unfavorable factor for the team.
      Further changes on the vehicle have to be reported by the team for subsequent runs. Spot checks by the management must be permitted.
    • Inspection of advertising
      The advertisement of the OVS must be attached for inspection. After that the number will be allocated. In case of complaint the responsible commissioner may set a deadline to solve, after that the participator can be disqualified.

D) Technical requirements and categorization

  1. General technical requirements
    • Technical condition and technical changes
      Technical condition of the vehicle may not be dangerous for persons, property or the environment in any way. In order to avoid a subsequent exclusion, the approval should be asked by the technical commissar of OVS, before any technical modifications are made.
    • Brakes
      The main brake must be useable from any driving position by the driver.
      It must be possible to stop the vehicle even when the engine has been stopped and must apply all wheels simultaneously. All parts of the brake system must be made by an approved manufacturer. The hand brake must be clearly indicated by a sign inside the cab. It must be possible for the driver to run the hand brake even when he is buckled up. It is permitted to replace mechanical parking brakes by spring brakes. When a pneumatic brake system without mechanical actuator is used, a hand brake must be activated by a spring accumulator. If the parking brake is electrically controlled, the following applies: Power off = brake firm!
    • Circuit breakers and motor cut-off
      A circuit breaker which cuts off the motor function and all electrical parts (except of a given automatic fire extinguishing system) is required. This circuit breaker must be marked by a red lightning inside a blue triangle. The switch or the remote control must be fixed on the outside front of the vehicle. All vehicles must provide a reliable function to stop the engine at any time. It has to be mounted close to the circuit breaker and clearly marked (e.g. engine off). An additional engine off-switch must be inside the cab, clearly marked and possible for the driver to be reached even when he is buckled up (the switch must interrupt the electric fuel pump). For diesel vehicles, an air interrupt flap is recommended in the air intake system.
    • Sound level and emission
      For vehicles, the noise level must not exceed the vehicle’s values at market introduction. The emission values of the installed engines must not exceed the values of the model . The exhaust gases shall be led off upwardly.
    • Lighting equipment
      The lighting equipment may be removed but the contour of the vehicle may not change.
    • Ballast
      Ballast may be mounted corresponding to it’s weight and only within the contours of the vehicle. It must be mounted for inspections but may be removed or modified between driving sections (if the weight does not fall under the minimum). Modifications during a driving section are prohibited. The same rules are valid for accessories (winches, dredgers, cranes, hoists etc). All parts on the vehicle must be fixed in such a way that they cannot be lost even in difficult situations  (e.g. rollover).
    • Wheels and tires
      Protruding wheel nuts or bolts/screws must be protected by a cover. Distance plates or -rings are not allowed. Also not permitted are special competition tires, e.g. pure noppy treads in the standard category. The tire size is optional but must be mentioned in the documents of the vehicle, otherwise a document of compliance from the manufacturer must be shown. The tread is optional, as far it is permitted to public traffic by the manufacturer, and is sold by tire dealers without any restriction. Tires may be re-cut in accordance with the general open traffic rules, changes of the profiles are not allowed. Tires must be firmly attached to the wheel rim (gluing, screwing, use of spreaders, etc.). Only vehicles with pneumatic tires allowed, chains are prohibited.
    • Battery
      The battery may be placed in a closed and sealed container outside the cab. Poles must be covered.
    • General exclusions
      Electronic distance measuring devices as well as cameras as driving or marshalling aid are not allowed.
  2. Standard and close-to-standard categories
    Vehicles are categorized as standard or close-to-standard when they conform to vehicles which verifiably sold a quantity of 10 at least and comply with these rules in frame dimensions, and axle positions suitable to these frame dimensions. All vehicles’ modifications need explicitly to be permitted. Controversial issues about the standard of a vehicle, the team must bring a document proving the above mentioned requirements.

    • Categorization

Category II
Trucks with 2 axles – gauge at least 1550 mm, wheelbase at least 2300 mm
Category III
Trucks with 3 axles – gauge at least 1751 mm wheelbase at least 3800 mm
Category IV
Trucks with 4 and more axles – gauge at least 1751 mm wheelbase at least 4800 mm

The differences in the size of the trucks are compensated by multipliers (see 10.2 to 10.4)       

    • Multiplier
      Calculation:Factor = 1 – [(difference in wheelbase (2.5 times for category II) + difference in gauge (2.5 times for category II) + difference in width (2.5 times for category II) + Front overhang ) /10.000] 
      Difference wheelbase 300mm; Difference gauge 40mm; Difference width 70mm;
      Front overhang 350mm
      Category II: 1 – [(750 + 100 + 175 + 350) / 10,000] = 0.863
      Category III, IV: 1 – [(300 + 40 + 70 + 350) / 10,000] = 0.924
      The multiplier is taken into account at the end of the competition and commercially rounded up to full points.
    • Basic vehicle
      Category II:
      Wheelbase: 2900 mm, Gauge: 1700 mm, Width: 2100 mm, Front overhang: 0 mm,
      The multiplier improves with larger and smaller trucks.
      Category III:
      Wheelbase: 4500mm, Gauge: 1800mm, Width: 2200mm, Front suspension: 0 mm,
      If a vehicle with a lower measured value is at the start, the smallest value applies.
      Category IV:
      Wheelbase: 4800mm, Gauge: 1800mm, Width: 2300mm, Front suspension: 0 mm,
      If a vehicle with a lower measured value is at the start, the smallest value applies.
    • Measuring points
      Gauge: measured by the first useable pair of wheels,
      Wheelbase: first to last useable pair of wheels on flat ground.
      Width: maximum width of the vehicle at the height of the axle hub (average front axle / rear axle),
      Front overhang: The foremost front of the tire tread to the front edge of the bumper on the longitudinal frame (tow hook etc. are not taken into account).
    • Permitted types of vehicles and weight
      Permitted: tractors, trucks, truck tractors or similar special vehicles. SUVs, pick-ups etc. registered as trucks are not trucks as defined by these rules. The actual weight must be 2.5 t at least (weighed without driver/co-driver and empty tank). If there are any doubts about the vehicles’ weight at the technical inspection, the very  next public weight bridge has to be used. Costs for this have to be paid by the registered team.
    • Cover
      All vehicles must provide a cover behind the cab and also comply with these specifications: .
      – Cover beginning must be not more than 50 cm behind the cab. The transition to the cab
         can be trapezoidal but must be manufactured the same kind as the cover. .
      – Tire treads and the end side of the vehicle frame must be covered. .
      – may run 50 cm above the highest point of the tire tread at most, measured on flat ground
         (only covers of the grommets/cable bushings are excepted).
      – must look like a rectangle in plan view – beginning not more than 50 cm behind the cab
         (rounded corners and a radius <5 cm are permitted).
      – The outer metal frame (Including crossing to driver’s cab) must be in a single piece.
      – Cover must be closed
         Material specifications:
         steel or aluminum plate (0.8 mm thick at least) or impact-resistant plastics
         (at least 4 mm thick) or wood (at least 15 mm thick)).
      – Must be accessible (at least by one person with approx. 80 kg).
      – Grommets between the frame longitudinal beam allowed for mounting auxiliary units.
        Grommets must be covered
      – Category IV must have a minimum width of 2.43 m.
    • Cover of the leading axles
      All vehicles must feature a fender on their leading axles to cover the tire tread at least at an angle of 30 degrees forward and 50 degrees to the back (measured from the vertical line through the center of the wheel).
      The fender is required to protect  of chipping stones and water/mud safely and permanently. Original fenders have to be used. Instead, steel or aluminum sheets can (at least 0.8 mm thick) (at least 4 mm high) with edge protection radius <5 mm or impact-resistant, inherently stable plastic may be used.
    • Bumpers
      A serial front bumper for the used type of vehicle or fortified material is necessary. If there is no serial bumper designed for the vehicle or a bumper of reinforced material is installed, it has to be mounted in accordance with the specifications:

– Bumpers may be placed through the end of the frame,
– Existing cross-beams must not be removed,
– must be as wide as the fender,
– must be within the contour of the vehicle (plan view),
– contour of the bumper must be equal to inspection when entering a section,
– damaged bumpers must be replaced by new parts for the next run

   Further instructions for using the serial bumper:
– required extensions must be made of the same material used for the bumper,
– required extensions must be mounted along the entire height of the bumper
   Further instructions for using a non-serial bumper:
– Material dimensions have to be at least steel UNP 100 along the entire width,
– Cutting edges must be rounded (radius> 5 mm),
– Mounting point of the bumper center corresponds to the center of frame,
– Entire height of frame gap must be covered.     

    • Cab
      A cab can be replaced by another type released by the same manufacturer. After the retrofit the team must bring an expert’s certificate (e.g. the TÜV in Germany) in German, English or French language.
      Before modifications of cabs (e.g. extension / retrofit to open-topped version) a prior authorization from the OVS or an adequate documentation from the manufacturer is required.
    • Underride protection and protective devices
      The underride protection may be removed on back and side. The fitting of protective devices against mechanical damage to the vehicle is optional.
    • Differential Lock
      Sequence and operation mode of the inter-axle and inter-wheel differential locks may be changed.
    • Steering
      A servo steering may be retrofitted.
    • Axles
      The used axle must verifiably have sold a quantity of 10 at least for the used vehicle type. The documents have to be submitted by the participant (confirmation of manufacturer or importer). Lifting axles are not allowed.
    • Coolers
      Coolers may be displaced. The cooler and the coolant pipes must be covered to avoid any danger for crew and attendances in case of damages. Mechanical ventilators may be replaced by electric ones.
    • Gears and clutch
      All gearboxes/transfer gearboxes must be serial equipment for the used type of the truck and must verifiably have sold a quantity of 10 at least. Fixing must be equal to the original. There are no restrictions in the design of clutches.
    • Ignition system
      Military ignition systems may be replaced by civilian versions.
    • Engine
      Retrofitting of more powerful engines is allowed, based on the original engine type or based on a successor variant of the vehicle type constructed by the vehicle manufacturer. The motor installation must be done without any serious changes of the frame or changing the serial engine suspension. The standard mounting position may not be changed. All evidences of change and their admissibility have to be submitted by the participant.
    • Frame and shock absorbers
      The front part of the chassis (front overhang) may be cut. The suspension points of springs, shock absorbers, steering, etc. must not be changed. The design of shock absorbers is optional. The number may not be changed. The frame may be cut no further than to the foremost point of the cab / hood and up to the first cross member. The screwed-bumper is not be seen as a cross member. The rear of the vehicle frame may be cut up to the first cross member behind the rear of the last axle of the suspension. The frame must be cut right and left only to the same extent. The chassis may not be changed in the range of permissible front and rear cut possibility. No original cross members may be modified in their effects or removed.
    • General Releases
      Auxiliary units may be displaced. The type of fuel pump is optional. Displacing the intake air channels is optional. The position and size of the fuel tank is optional (but not in the co-driver compartment). Mounting of additional mirrors is optional. Mirrors may be removed at all.
    • Exclusions
      Prohibited are all-wheel steering, individually adjustable shock absorbers and springs individually adjustably, even the equipment is offered by the manufacturer as a standard.
    • Note
      All changes to a serial vehicle should be reported before to the technical commissioners of the European Truck Trial series, in order to avoid a possible exclusion or classification into the category prototypes.
  1. Prototype categorie
    Prototypes are vehicles which are not related to standard or close-to-standard vehicles.
    They must be visually assigned to a commercial truck. The vehicles must be comparable in appearance and must comply with the technical and visual requirements of the Europa Truck Trial series.

    • Permissible vehicle types and weight
      The optical assignment to a commercial vehicle is essentially determined by the construction of a truck-typical driver’s cab in the position typical of a truck as a front-mounted or as a hood-driver’s cab. Cars, Combined vehicles or Pickups are not permitted. The frame, the engine, gearboxes, axles, as well as all parts installed in the area of the brake system must derived from vehicles which would receive a start enable in a series-based category in the same (original) form. The actual weight must be at least 2.5 t (weighed without driver / co-driver and with empty tank). If there are any doubts about the vehicles’ weight at the technical inspection, the very next public weight bridge has to be used. Costs for this have to be paid by the registered team. The gross axle load is 2.5 tons at least.

11.1.1. Driver’s cab
The cab must  belong to vehicles that only offered by the manufacturer on vehicles with a overall vehicle weight of  more than 3500 kg.
Self-built cabs are only permitted if they are based on an original driver’s cab or a design model and contain, in addition to the driver’s seat and the necessary controls, the essential components of a truck cab (closed front and rear delimitation; doors or half-doors (with net); Roof (also typical Cabriolet); windscreen frame (also without windshield) .The acceptability decide the commissioners.

    • Multiplier

Factor = 1 – [(difference in wheelbase  + difference in gauge  + difference in width
 + Front overhang ) /10.000] 

Difference wheelbase 300mm; Difference gauge 40mm; Difference width 70mm;
Front overhang 350mm
Category III, P: 1 – [(300 + 40 + 70 + 350) / 10,000] = 0.924
The multiplier is taken into account at the end of the competition and commercially rounded up to full points.

    • Basic vehicle
      Wheelbase: 3200 mm, Gauge: 1800 mm, Width: 2250 mm, Front overhang: 0 mm,
      The multiplier improves with larger and smaller trucks.
    • Measuring points
      Gauge: measured by the first usable pair of wheels,
      Wheelbase: first to last usable pair of wheels on flat ground
      Width: maximum width of the vehicle at the height of the axle hub (average front axle / rear axle),
      Front overhang: The foremost front of the tire tread to the front edge of the bumper on the longitudinal frame (tow hook etc. are not taken into account).
    • Steering
      The wheels of the front axle must always be steerable (engine / power out).
    • Doors and grills
      Doors, half doors or adequate grills must be built-in.
    • Engine cover
      Engine, fuel- and cooling water-bearing parts, as well as other rotating parts, may not be exposed (covered by steel plate 0.8 mm thickness or other materials making technical sense, but no wood).
    • Axles and wheels
      Lifting axles may be raised during a section run if the wheel base does not make necessary a change into a different category.  The vehicle must feature four operable wheels at least.
    • Hazard
      The vehicles must not be unreasonably hazardous for drivers / co-drivers and attendances.
    • Other restrictions
      No further restrictions.
    • Exemption and transitional arrangements
      For a vehicle that does not receive a take-off clearance due to its optical classification, a special permit may be granted once. The exemption will be granted in coordination between the sporting director and the present Technical Commissioner.
      The starter is only counted for this For the championship, however, taken out of the rating. The multiplier is calculated as vehicles according to the “transitional rule”. 
      Transitional arrangements
      All vehicles of the prototype category, which no longer meet the requirements from 2015 onwards, but have participated in at least one competition of the Europe Truck Trial series in 2012, 2013 or 2014, will continue to receive the start-up clearance until 2017 inclusive.

From 2018 onwards the factor for these vehicles will be changed by + 0,15.
Vehicles, which have not participated in European Truck Trial competitions for two consecutive years from season 2015 on, will not be accepted, if they do not comply with the applicable regulations.
The transitional arrangement ends with the last run of the 2020 season.

E) Safety and Environment

  1. Safety rules
    • Roll cage
      All participating vehicles must be equipped with a roll cage which protects the survival space of the driver and co-drivers in all situations of the Trial (axle- or multiple overturnings,). The participants have to assess and design the roll cage on their own risk. In case of claims by the technical inspector a basis of the systems’ computation furnished by a qualified person is required. Figures may be used as suggestions only and are not binding. Oversize of the construction prevents injuries of participants, reduces vehicle damages, and avoids the risk of disqualification caused by damage. Cages of open cab vehicles must protect from foreign objects (small meshed grid or sheet).
    • Repairs of roll cages
      Heavily damaged roll-systems have to be renewed.
      After a tilt or rollover and detected damages of cage and / or vehicle a sight check by two technical inspectors is required (or a technical and managing inspector) following the specifications of the technical inspection. In case of partially damaged systems, the damaged areas (parts which show strains, crushes or buckling) must be ripped out until the next weld of an undamaged area, manufactured new and competently inserted. After a fall may entitle you to the current event of the damaged portion of a roll system in terms of strength by the original cage appropriate damage range jumpers for further participation. Damaged vehicles are disqualified, if necessary.
    • Towing and rescue equipment
      All vehicles must feature two each (right and left) towing or rescue equipments on the front and rear side. Their size and strength must be such that hooks with Ø 50 mm can be hung and the vehicle can be recovered. Unfixed parts must be fixed by a pin or similar splints. Each vehicle must have a minimum of 5m long rescue belt (no steel cable). The belt must be at hand stowed / secured to the vehicle. The tensile force of the rescue belt has to be twice as high as the vehicles’ deadweight (test seal required) at least.
      The design of the upper left and right side of the roll cage must provide the possibility to fasten load-carrying means irremovably.
    • Helmet and seat belt
      Driver and co-driver must wear helmets featuring internationally approved seals. All co-drivers have to be buckled up during the section. At least 4-point or safety belts are required. Different belt systems are not allowed. Fastening points of the cab and cab floor must be reinforced. A shoulder belt needs a guide in order to prevent from slipping off. Helmet and seat belt use is also obligatory also applies to persons inside the car in case of rescue.
    • Seats
      Each driver / co-driver must have his own seat. Only seats in accordance with FIA standard 8855-1992 or 8855-1999 or 8862-2009 are permitted. It is strongly recommended to attach a protective net to avoid injuries of outstanding body parts (hands, arms) in case of overturns.
    • Cab and bonnet safety instructions
      Vehicles with tiltable cabs must provide an additional locking in order to avoid tilting during the competition. Single locking: steel pin or screw, Ø 16 mm at least. Double locking:  steel pin or screw, Ø 12 mm at least. Chains and steel ropes may be used as well. Cabs featuring bonnets must also have a protection avoiding unlocking in case of failure of the standard closure.
    • Doors
      Door locks must be unlocked during a section. Door openers must be fully functional on both sides, on the inside as well as on the outside.
    • Front, side and rear windows
      Front panes must be made of laminated glass, all other panes of safety glass. If the windscreen is not made of laminated glass, protective glasses or a full-face helmet must be worn.
      All panes may be replaced with plastic panes (e.g. Makrolon pane).
      It’s also possible to drive without windscreen and frame.
    • Extinguishing Media
      Each vehicle has to feature 12 kg dry powder or similar materials suitable to Fire Protections Classification A and B on the load area. Fire extinguishers must be mounted on the outside, easily accessible and ready for use.
      The following must be clearly stated on all fire extinguishers: name of manufacturer, type, class of powder, approval number, code number, quantity of media in kg or liters, manual in words and pictures, fire protection classifications, and warnings.
      Automatic systems: if according to the international FIA standards an automatic fire extinction system may be used.
      It is up to the teams their extinction systems are inspected at regular intervals – at least biennial – by an authorized specialist. These results need to be verified, also as a seal on the extinction system. Due to environmental or trial sport influences shorter intervals may be required.
    • Belt cutters
      At least one belt cutter is required, easily to be reached by a buckled-up driver/co-driver.
    • Clothing
      Flame-resistant clothing for both driver and co-driver are highly recommended.
  2. Protection of the Environment
    • It must be ensured that even in extreme situations (e.g. somersaults) leaking of fuel or oil is definitely impossible. The fuel tank must be protected from any external damage, also when the vehicle somersaults. This has to be provided by a hoop guard or an adequate position on the vehicle. The fuel tank may be replaced by another, more adequate one. Ventilation with bidirectional valve, filler cap also screw-capped.
    • Due to environmental reasons a mat has to be put under all competition vehicles parked in the paddock to save the soil from leaking oil. The same applies to longer waiting times during the competition.
      These actions may become binding by the order of the environmental manager of the OVS or by the order of the approving authority.
    • Refueling of the competition vehicles in the paddock or on the course is prohibited.
    • Violations may lead to disqualification.
    • The environmental manager of the OVS is authorized to disqualify a participant or to close sections due to violations against these environmental regulations. The Chief commissioner has to be informed about all actions required.

F) Protests

  1. General
    • General
      Protests must be submitted in written form with the race management. They are accepted in German, English and French language. Each protest only may concern to one matter. Protests are valid only against matters of the respective run.
    • Right to protest
      Starters can only protest against the runs in which they participate.
    • Protest fee and payment
      Protest fee is 100 €. All costs have to be paid by the loser of the arbitration.
  2. Protests
    • Technical protests
      Technical protests must be filed in written form, together with protest fee and potential dismantling costs until closing of the last section of the respective class by the latest..
    • Protests against evaluation in a section
      After leaving the respective section, protests against one’s own evaluation can be recorded in writing. Protests against other participants’ evaluations must be filed on their announcement immediately after the section was closed (in case of divided groups 15 minutes after closing the respectively other half group’s section) with the commissioner. The protest period remains unaffected by these measures. The written protest and the fee have to be submitted latest 15 minutes after closing of the last section of the appropriate category.
    • Protests against the score
      Protests against the score (calculation and transmission errors) must be submitted 30 minutes after their release on the bulletin by the latest (no protest fee). Bulletin is updated on each race day at 19:00 clock (Last competition day of the season 18:00 clock) at the office mobile.
  3. Decisions in protest arbitrations
    • Decisions in protest arbitrations
      All matters in such arbitrations are determined by the present commissioners only and will be awarded in written form before the begin of the flower ceremony of the respective run, if procurable.
    • Appeal
      Protest against decisions may be appealed by any of the parties to the Arbitration Commission.
  4. Arbitration commission
    • General

Submissions to the Arbitration commission must be submitted in writing to the chairperson of the Commission in accordance with these Rules. (OVS – Arbitration Commission, Laurenz-Dorrer Street 6, A-3300 Amstetten, or e-mail: Submissions are accepted in German, English and French.

    • Entering law

Every person affected of decisions in protest arbitrations has the right to make an entry.
The conducting sports commissioner has the right to make an entry.

    • Entry fee payers and cost carriers

The entry fee is 300 €. Other possible costs arising from the arbitration order.
For submissions by the senior sports commissioner the costs are paid by the OVS.

    • Appeal

Against decisions of the Arbitration Commission no appeal is possible.
